A new fresh font by the german designer David Waschbüsch is called BS Konstata and available in TrueType Font and OpenType Font.

The now released »BS Konstata« is really a nice font. Created for use as stencil for sinage it features a set of only 10 different elements out of which you can compose the complete typeface. Therefore it borders between being somewhat grungy, modular and classic.

BS Konstata is supposed to be stenciled with closed counters – which is possible due to the modular stystem. In fact there are no bridges in it at all. It consists of a complete set of unicase letters – numerals are ment to be done als roman numbers, german umlaute are includes as ue (ä), oe (ö), ae (ä) and ss (ß). Any medium will do the job but I suggest using fast drying paint like Placka, Edding or Montana 94 spray-paint to speed up the process of composing all elements.

On the keyboard you will find all 10 elements on the position of numerals (0-9); a set of fully composed characters on the position of lowercase letters (a-z incl. ü, ö, ä, ß); and every letters composed into the lowest possible number of parts (maximal two, often only one) at the position of capital letters.

Lovely free font Neu Eichmass, from russian designer Ivan Khmelevsky, is great for big headlines.

100 grams is a metric unit widely used in retail. On every example of food packaging we are presented with information concerning the total weight of the contents enclosed. Using 100 grams as a point of reference, we are also provided with a break down of the nutritional content of the ingredients e.g. fat, fibre, carbohydrate etc..

Weight as a concept is also closely related to typography - the weight of black text on a white page, the different weights in a single type family: light, regular, bold and black… Throughout the history of type the term ‘weight’ has been referred to in a kind of virtual sense as opposed to reflecting the literal meaning of the word. Of course wooden and metal type did have a genuine physical weight, however in typographic terms, weight was simply used as a figure of speech to describe the visual
appearance of a typeface.

Neu Eichmass – New Etalon in german, is a typeface based on the weight – 100 grams. The name is a reference to International Prototype kilogram as a base unit of mass in the International System of Units. The typeface has a modern, cold and measured feel to it, reflecting its origin – it’s metal ‘parents’. It is a sans serif font, taking inspiration from famous grotesques as well as stenciled types associated with market places and street traders. Further inspiration comes from 1920’s and 30’s constructivism. The typeface may, in the future, expand into a type family – the bold weight could become a kilogram, the light weight could be a gram and so on.

The font can be easily stenciled, and it’s application is appropriate for different usages e.g. for street art, for retail purposes suitable for independent shops and street markets, as well as a headline font and a medium point body text suitable for print.

So you want some more info on me? Ok then.

I started officially studying Graphics at Rochdale College, from 16 when I left school. After I left Rochdale, I moved onto Bradford University to study Graphic Media Communications.

I left Bradford in 2004 and started freelancing under the name Thumbnail Designs. During my time at College and University I began experimenting with Font Design and Typography and today it’s my primary field of design.

My fonts are all designed from scratch. They start life either on paper, then on into Illustrator, where the designs get finalized. The finished designs are put through a font making package, where all the kerning, spacing and stress happens. Finally the finished font is exported and sold. As of yet none of mine are finished enough to sell, so there you’ll have to wait…sorry.
